Bill began drinking alcohol at the age of 12 and started shoplifting and vandalizing for attention from friends and family. It was only his love of sports, especially surfing, that kept him from taking drugs, though most weekends he was more than intoxicated. As he says, it was to drown out the loneliness and hopelessness.
During Bill's senior year in high school in 1971 he had over 40 people share the gospel of Christ with him and he rejected every one. That same year he had a near death experience while surfing, but was saved by a Divinely given dream that very morning that showed him how to survive the event. He was also in 3 car accidents that summer, going head first through 2 windshields but without a scratch or injury.
That fall he went to Florida State University and everything began to change. He met some Christian students who were truly happy without drugs or alcohol and it intrigued him. Three weeks later he gave his heart to Christ at one of their Bible study meetings and has never looked back.
FSU Flying High Circus
Bill graduated from Florida State University with a degree in speech communications in 1976. Three of his university years included performing as a member of FSU's famous Flying High Circus. After graduation Bill immediately entered into the professional circus world with his wife Meg, as trapeze artists and acrobats. But after a disappointing initial season of performing and a disastrous auto accident, the Greenmans ended their short professional circus careers to seek the Lord’s will for their lives.
Circus Alleluia
One year after ending their professional career they combined their circus skills with an all-consuming desire to share the good news of Jesus Christ and began Circus Alleluia Ministries (CAM).
Over the ensuing 11 years Bill directed CAM’s many outreaches, training over 60 volunteers in circus and ministry. This included taking the circus into prisons, juvenile detention centers, public and private schools, college and university campuses, civic auditoriums, and Christian festivals across the eastern half of the US and Canada. Circus Alleluia was also featured on the CBN 700 Club, along with a multitude of local and regional interviews on TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines.
That decade of ministry saw tens of thousands of people won to Christ and was a catalyst for the work of many other ministries inspired by CAM's unique approach to evangelism.
Teaching Purpose
In the early years of Circus Alleluia hundreds of Christians would come to Bill after performances asking the same question: "How did you know this is what you were supposed to do for the Lord?" They wanted to know so they could follow the same path to their own purpose and destiny. In answer to those heartfelt questions Bill wrote his first book in 1986, How To Find Your Purpose In Life, which outlined the very principles and techniques he used to find and begin to live his own Kingdom purpose, beginning with Circus Alleluia. Bill's publisher released the book globally and soon testimonies of radically changed lives poured in from around the world. Believers were sharing how Bill's practical yet simple Kingdom principles that led them to their own Divine Destinies.
The Vision of Purpose International
The Mandate
In 1996 during prayer the Lord asked bill, "If I asked you to change the expression of Christianity in the earth in a single generation, how would you do it?" Bill's answer, "Simple, I'd get every follower of Jesus to find and fulfill the purpose You created them for." God replied, "Great! Go do that."
That launched Purpose International and the mandate of taking the Kingdom Purpose message to All ages, using All Media, on All Continents.
Bill's second book, Purpose Destiny Achievement, was published in 1999. From there, new seminars were birthed and courses created.
The focus of Purpose International is to create the tools to teach followers of Jesus Christ how to find and fulfill the specific purpose for which God created them. The plan is to continue to team up with other established ministries around the world to reach more believers more efficiently.
